Oh the exhilaration and stress that comes with preparing for another show! If you like thrills, chills and spills then you absolutely must try it! Producing Verbalized Ink has been an absolute adventure. We've come across so many obstacles that the only explanation is that God has an enormous pot of gold for us at the end of this rainbow. While I won't go into any definite details; I will say that from everyone we have talked to this is only the theater norm. How many times have you pulled up a casting call and saw "Casting- Immediate replacement needed"? How many of you have experienced venue changes, last minute budget shortfalls or devasting printing snafus that made your programs seem more amateur than professional?
It is important that everyone, not just theater professionals, remembers that anything worth accomplishing will have a path filled with pitfalls and obstacles. These things are there only to deter you from your path. They are there to frustrate you to the point that you will not want to continue on the journey. Should you decide to jump over the pitfalls and overcome the obstacles, how sweet the reward will be at the end of it all. Last night I reached a point where I began to feel a little discouraged. So many things were going on and eventhough I did have faith that "victory would be mine,I was beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. So I decided to do what has always worked in the past. I talked to my Daddy. When I arrived at work today he gave me this message: We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. Romans 5: 3-4.

Verbalized Ink
So we did it! We produced our inaugural production, "Verbalized Ink". I believe all of us right now are filled with so much excitement and energy. It feels really good when you produce a work and you get a lot of good feed back. So what do we do now? Grow and maintain! The growth part sounds a whole lot easier than the maintenance part. We want to expand, become bigger, larger. However maintaing your standard of excellence is so much harder. When someone comes to you after a show and says, "That was excellent. It was unlike anything I have seen before. The language was beautiful and the acting was powerful," you know from those few statements what is expected of you the next time they come to see a show. What's even more scary is, not only what they expect but, what the people they recommended the show to expect as well.
Hmmm, I guess that leads me to think... what should you expect from a Rise and Walk theatrical production? It should definitely be something unique and groundbreaking. It should also be edgy without being vulgar. It should prick your consciousness about social and political issues. Last but not least it should present such powerful and excellent acting that the audience is absolutely overcome and remembers the characters for a lifetime. A very high standard to say the least but with God we know it can be attained and maintained!
I cannot complete this blog without giving all the praise to God. For it was he that gave the inspiration and the vision to playwright/actor/director, Andre N. Jones to create the wonderful work, "Verbalized Ink". Verbalized Ink has set the bar for this entire company. All praises also go to God for provision. He provided for every prop piece, every piece of paper the tickets were printed on, the wonderful family and friends that volunteered their time and services without being asked, the great supporters who decided the show was worth it, the fabulous technical director Eric Wesley and the amazing actors, Frantz T. Excellent, Roderick Slocum, Kim Brown and Tiffany Barrett.
For all of you dreamers, "Verbalized Ink" is a testimony that dreams do come true. Just take one step and the Lord will make up for the rest. I know because I've seen him work!
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV)
